Couple things going on today, and family meeting up with me in a bit, gotta get some work done before all the fuss starts.
I won’t need much reminding today. I’ve been forgetting that my birthday was coming up, and shocked when people asked me about it all month. Yesterday, it was while I was being carded for cigarettes. I’m going to stop typing for a second and think about how funny that is…
Okay, not that funny, but kind of funny. 35 and still getting carded. That’s pretty awesome, especially since nobody carded me for beer when I was 18. What can you do though?
Anyway, this isn’t going to be a long post, but I do want to tell you about some awesome things I’m doing this month. First, my little monster book project, “Stone’s Shadow” is officially in beta. I know it will throw a couple people off, but I made an email list for it so it will be easier to track and compile everyone’s reviews without them getting lost on my normal email list. You can sign-up and have it emailed to you here. The link can also be found by clicking “Downloads” from the main menu on this site.
The second thing, is that revision on my “Finish the Damn Book” project has started, which will likely culminate in another email list for the next iteration, though the first draft is still available under “Downloads.” While I’m working on it, I’m going to try posting extra blogs this month that will include excerpts and nuggets from the book. I try to stay on the inspiration train, and helping writers with my posts, so it will fit perfectly as blog fodder. I can take all the wonderful information that I’m stuffing into the book, and put it here for review, discussion, and commentary. Hopefully anyone reading it will be inspired to finish that novel they’ve been working on.
What’s up with the email lists? To put it plainly, FTDB was downloaded about 150 times. You know how many people responded? 5. Most of the responses weren’t even through the website, or the email links. They were people who contacted me on social media or forums. Which is pretty awesome, but it’s hard to reach back out to those people and shoot them the new version. Anyone who signs up for the FTDB list will automatically be entitled to the latest and greatest electronic version, unless they unsubscribe. I’m not going to spam anyone with annoying crap. The email lists are strictly so that when I want to reach out to you for thoughts, comments, feedback, or to give you free shit for helping out, I don’t have to go digging through a saturated notebook, or scrolling through 5000 twitter followers, trying to remember your handle. That’s all.
Anyway, I’m not beating that dead horse anymore, he’s had enough. I did want to also tell you that I’m trying to get some people together to help spread the word about FTDB. If you liked the draft idea, I’m making it even better, adding chapters, adding cool appendixes, redesigning the cover, and trying to come up with a bunch of clever ancillary stuff that I can give away for free, all to help new writers find their way to authordom. If you like that idea, and want to be part of the project, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and let me know if you would be willing to help spread the word on which social accounts (and make sure that we’re friended on those accounts), or if you are a blogger and would like to cover the book progress for your viewers. Or any ideas you have to help spread word of the project.
Anyway, this is getting long, and I have a couple client pieces to edit before the birthday well-wishers show up. The link for the scary story beta, in case you missed it. I love you all, I’ve got some birthdaying to do.
